Birr Castle - County Offaly

Once home to Princess Margaret’s mother-in-law the Countess of Rosse, Birr Castle in County Offaly is grand gothic castle, with fine interiors and its own vast telescope nestled in the grounds, known as the ‘Leviathan of Parsonstown’. Today it is the home of the 7th Earl of Rosse and his family. With a packed schedule of events, glorious gardens and a fine array of shopping and dining options, Birr Castle provides an excellent setting for a day out right in the centre of Ireland.

Clandaboye - County Downe

Clandaboye near Belfast is one of Ireland’s most unique historic homes. Home to to eccentric collectors, namely the 1st Marquess of Dufferin & Ava who collected artefacts & curiosities on his travels across the world as Viceroy of both India & Canada. In more recent history Lindy, Lady Dufferin and her husband Sheridan made Clandaboye a centre for the arts, hosting legendary parties attended by the great & the good. Today Clandaboye hosts events & weddings, its fabulous gardens are well worth a visit, but perhaps its greatest asset is its yoghurt, started by the late Lady Dufferin, which is now sold in shops across Ireland.

Glin Castle - County Limerick

Home to the Fitzgerald family and ancestral seat of the Knights of Glin, Glin Castle is a charming Neo classical country house, which has been home to a fascinating array of eccentric characters. The sprawling gardens are of particular note with fine examples of rare, specimen plants & trees, which Glin’s current chatelaine Catherine Fitzgerald is particularly keen on restoring. Curraghmore in the heart of County Waterford, is the ancestral home of the de le Poer Beresford Family and the Marquess’s of Waterford. Home to 800 years of history, the house is renowned for its fascinating collection and fine interiors. The house and its magnificent gardens are regularly open to the public. Lismore Castle - County Waterford

The imposing battlements of Lismore Castle situated above the river date from 1185 when they were erected by King John. However the present gothic style of the castle is the work of the 6th Duke of Devonshire, who’s ancestor the 4th Duke acquired the castle through marriage from the Earls of Burlington who intern acquired the castle from the Earls of Desmond. Lismore has since been the Irish seat of the Dukes of Devonshire, and remains one of Ireland’s greatest historic homes. Featuring stunning gothic interiors and breath-taking gardens for which Ireland is known, Lismore is a captivating example of stately Irish country living. The gardens are open to the public, and the castle is available for private hire.
