Belvoir Castle - Windsor Castle

Home to the Duke & Duchess of Rutland, Belvoir Castle crowns a hill above stunning Capability Brown landscape in the Midlands. Used as Windsor Castle in The Crown, you may well remember a tense exchange between the Queen (played by Claire Foy) and Jackie Kennedy (played by Jodi Balfour) in the Regent’s Gallery at Belvoir, in season two of the series. Belvoir’s magnificent & storied rooms were built in 1801 by the same architect as Windsor Castle – James Wyatt.

Belvoir Castle and its gardens are open 7-days week from spring to late summer and then again from November to January for Christmas.

Wilton House - Buckingham Palace

Located in Wiltshire, Wilton House has graced our screens in many hit films & TV series including the recent adaptation of Emma (2020), Pride & Prejudice (with Kiera Knightley) and Bridgeton. Wilton, in Wiltshire stood in for Buckingham Palace in The Crown and witnessed many of the show’s most memorable scenes, including Diana Princess of Wales (played by Emma Corrin) practising ballet in Wilton’s famous Salon. Home to the Earl & Countess of Pembroke, Wilton’s incredible mixture of architectural styles, collection of art and heavenly gardens are a reason enough to visit. 

 Wilton House and its grounds are open Thursdays-Sundays from April to September.

Burghley House - Windsor Castle

Taking on the mantle of serving as Windsor Castle from Belvoir, most notably appearing on fire in Series 5, to replicate the 1992 Windsor Castle fire, Burghley House in the Midlands, has been no stranger to our screens in the past, starring in Pride & Prejudice (2009) and Elizabeth: The Golden Age (with Cate Blanchett). The Elizabethan house set in a glorious deer park, was built for Elizabeth I’s chief minister, Lord Burghley in 1587 and regularly holds events and open days, notably the renowned Burghley Horse Trials. 

 Burghley House and its gardens are open 7-days week open from April to October.

Knebworth House - Balmoral Castle

For the Queen’s most beloved home Balmoral in Scotland, the creators of The Crown chose to use the interiors of the magnificent, gothic Knebworth House. However, you won’t have to travel up to Scotland to experience Knebworth’s magic, located in Hertfordshire just two hours from central London, the house is a screen legend having appeared also as Balmoral in The Kings Speech (with Colin Firth) and in the most recent series of the Netflix hit You. Famed for its rock concert, Knebworth has welcomed The Rolling Stones, Queen, Elton John & Oasis to play in its very stunning grounds. 

 Knebworth House and its gardens are open from April to October on the weekends and open daily during June & September.
